Although a headache may be felt as a deep, dull ache in the brain, it is rarely cause by structures in the brain itself as most of the brain is insensitive to pain. It is the structures round the brain or scalp which are sensitive to pain.

Diet and Lifestyle Factors

Make sure that you eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables.

Get enough sleep at night, most people need around 8 hours a night. Don’t have a television in your bedroom and give yourself time to unwind before going to sleep.

Don’t drink excessive amounts of alcohol, tea and coffee as they cause dehydration. 1 to 2 cups tea or coffee daily is enough.

Drink at least 3 pints of water daily.
