Sulphur

What is it?

Sulphur is a mineral that has many functions in the body. It is a component of the amino acids methionine, cysteine, N-acetyl Cysteine which make up manyof the proteins in the body. It is needed for the formation of connective tissue, hair, nails, skin and muscles; bile secretion for fat digestion; teeth and bone health.

A form of sulphur called MSM (methylsulphonylmethane) is used in supplements containing glucosamine and chondroitin for joint health.

Sulphur creams are often used to treat skin conditions.

Deficiency Symptoms
There are no known symptoms as most peoples diets contain adequate amounts of protein.

Sulphur is not normally taken on its own, so no range is indicated.

 

Cautions

If you sensitive to sulphur you may experience mild digestive discomfort.
