Tennis elbow

Tennis elbow is inflammation of the origin of the muscles responsible for turning the hand palm upwards and straightening, or extending the wrist.

These muscles are joined by a tendon to the lateral epicondyle, that is the bony projection on the outside of the lower end of the humerus bone at the elbow joint. The condition causes pain on the outside of the elbow joint when the hand is turned outwards. the pain may spread down the forearm.

The pain is usually caused by a sprain or strain of the ligament and it may subside over time as the tissues heal.

Ice packs can help in the acute phase of injury, as does avoiding the cause, which may not be tennis at all.
